Typically the programmable clock generator is set by the BIOS at boot time to the selected value although some systems have dynamic frequency scaling, which frequently re-programs the clock generator. when a valid word clock signal has been connected. The clock generator in a motherboard is often changed by computer enthusiasts to control the speed of their CPU, FSB, GPU and RAM. AES, S/PDIF and Optical I/O, plus 6 Word Clock outputs and 1 Word. Programmable clock generators allow the number used in the divider or multiplier to be changed, allowing any of a wide variety of output frequencies to be selected without modifying the hardware. All of these devices generate multiple word clock outputs at a variety of standard sample rates, but many do much more than that. With 24 BNC outputs the DCD-24 sends accurate Word Clock throughout an installation. Other such optional sections include frequency divider or clock multiplier sections. The DCD-24 is both a Word Clock Generator and a Distributor, using exceptional jitter reduction technology. For purely analog audio, the internal word clock has to be used for clocking because a digital clock generator is not. The 8088 for example, used a 2/3 duty cycle clock, which required the clock generator to incorporate logic to convert the 50/50 duty cycle which is typical of raw oscillators. The generator may have additional sections to modify the basic signal. The big question on my mind, as I'd heard a lot of comments both pro and con regarding clocks, was would it make an audible difference and if so, would it sound 'better' The half rack unit is simple: one clock input and six clock outputs, all on BNC connectors, and a switch to choose the sample rate (44.1, 48, 88.2, or 96k). The amplifier circuit usually inverts the signal from the oscillator and feeds a portion back into the oscillator to maintain oscillation. This version uses more modern 14-segment LED displays and an Atmega 328p microcontroller to display the words and time. The resonant circuit is usually a quartz piezo-electric oscillator, although simpler tank circuits and even RC circuits may be used. The basic parts that all clock generators share are a resonant circuit and an amplifier. The signal can range from a simple symmetrical square wave to more complex arrangements. Eliminate timing errors with the ART SyncGEN Wordclock Generator that doubles as a system tester by alerting you if any equipment has a bad connection. Its small size makes it ideal for installation in even the smallest studio, while the unassuming interface allows even novice users to operate it with confidence. It's an unassuming and fairly affordable unit. Once the fish is alongside the boat, a straight gaff can be used to control and bring it on board. Have the person on the rod continue to wind as the harpoon line is being retrieved. Upon sticking a fish, do not cleat the line or put excessive pressure on it, especially if the fish is swimming away the dart will likely pull out if you do. Based on fish size, have a second fishing outfit ready to attach to the buoy. Prior to darting a fish, clear everyone and everything in the path of the main line. Then my shot usually ends up midway in the fish.” For instance, if a fish is 10 to 15 feet down and, let’s say, crossing right to left, I’ll aim for the lower stomach. “Many a top tuna and swordfish harpooner has told me that, when in doubt, you should hit low. This way, I can power it down straight and true.”ĭaffin agrees with the aim-lower concept. I also start with the head of the harpoon already in the water rather than shoot it from the surface. “When I’m ready to launch the harpoon, I aim at the bottom of the fish,” Fulton says. Mike Sudalĭarting a fish 10 to 20 feet down requires compensating for refraction from a topside view, the fish’s exact position might skew slightly from where it actually is. A tether line taped along the harpoon shaft tears loose once the dart takes hold. Aiming low ensures the dart will hit high in the back. Refraction creates a false position of the fish. By the time it’s ready to boat, the fish is pretty much done, and everyone on board is a lot safer because of it.” With a harpoon, the dart hits the fish away from the boat. The gaff and the guy holding it were flailing, and the end of the gaff whacked me hard in the head. Prior to using the harpoon, I recall wiring a swordfish that went crazy when it was gaffed. “They jump a lot and beat the hell out of a boat. “These fish are powerful and wild and, by the boat, pose a big danger,” Daffin says. He swears by the safety factor harpoons provide. Tom Daffin has daytime swordfishing off South Jersey dialed in, with a 445-pounder his largest to date. There’s also potential for boat damage.Ĭapt. The sheer power of a swordfish, coupled with its long bill, poses serious risk to crewmembers wiring and gaffing the fish, particularly those with little big-game experience. While such aggressive darting may raise some eyebrows, a harpoon provides a huge safety advantage. If a well-honed crew gets within darting distance, it has pretty much eliminated the risk of a prolonged fight and pulled hook, which are common in this fishery. With swordfish, that moment usually transpires as it reaches the surface after swimming up the weight. There’s often an opportunity to reach a hooked fish early in the fight. One method relies on using the boat to stop, tire and subdue a fish another enables the fish to tire itself, under measured pressure. Whereas the end of a 30-foot flying-gaff rope (IGFA max length) is cleated off, the end of a harpoon dart line-as long as 300 feet, based on specific applications-is typically secured to a buoy, which is rigged to facilitate the quick attachment of a second fishing outfit, should a fish run out all the dart line. But that’s pretty much it for similarities. Similar to a flying gaff, a harpoon dart detaches from its shank. But what’s the consensus on using harpoons when seeking big fish for table fare and not tournament or record consideration?Ī harpoon dart is an alternative to a straight or flying gaff when subduing large offshore gamefish. Harpoons, however, are not IGFA-legal landing aids. George PoveromoĪccording to the IGFA rulebook, gaffs (including flying gaffs) are acceptable, provided overall length doesn’t exceed 8 feet. Darting food fish, such as this swordfish, gets the job done efficiently. In this post I will focus on HTTP Servers, more specifically on the type net/http.Server that is part of the standard library in Go and the configuration options we need to indicate when using it: Timeouts. Is it possible there were any IAM authentication/authorization changes to the credentials that your Pods are using? Maybe a change to the SQS queue policy or how your producer is placing messages in the queue? Any known networking changes within your GKE cluster's nodes that may have caused this?Īnd for setting the host in NewRequest, I think it would be best to open an issue/PR for this or an issue to get some more information from the maintainers as I'm not very familiar on the reason why it isn't being set. I assume you mean you're using Google Kubernetes Engine and talking to SQS over the public internet. From my understanding, SQS won't send a response back to your client until it collects the maximum number of messages you requested or when the wait time expires, which ever happens first. Simply restarting the pods fixed the issue but i would like to not have this happen again if we can help it Thanks for the details! Does your queue also have its ReceiveMessageWaitTimeSeconds attribute set to enable long polling? I imagine so if you're able to get messages after changing the header timeout value.Īnother thing you may want to consider is what you have MaxNumberOfMessages set to is a single consumer (go routine, Pod, etc) processing more than one message at a time? I don't think the default behavior would be a hang, but I'm not really sure. I assume this is because there is no default timeout set on the httpclient so the operation never fails and it gets stuck there in that thread waiting forever for a response (would that scenario make sense to you aswell?). We dont have any contrats per say but usually it is best practice to configure these things (we have been using it without for 2 years and never noticed issues) but a few days ago we experianced network issues between GCP and AWS, the applications that run on GCP were basically no longer receiving messages from the queue. (this particular app im testing with has plenty of spare resources and not under contention at all) I kept increasing the ResponseHeaderTimeout timeout value untill we stopped seeing as many errors and we are now at 25 seconds. Log.WithError(err).Error( "can not get message from the queue") this function is needed to configure the default http client of the AWS sdk, // if this is not done no timeouts are set leaving connections hanging forever and causing any disconnect from SNS // SQS to stay disconnected values taken from: // // we also wrap the http client inside the faceit tripper so we have metrics about the http request from the sdk func getDefaultHttpClient() *http.Client ), We found an example in the docs however it seems our services complain hen using this custom httpClient. We found out that its now possible to specify the httpclient to the aws-sdk. We recently started running into isseues with the aws-sdk, pimarily we are using sqs/sns. Google Now, the lack of custom launchers, and the locked down interface on iOS, since those issues have been covered ad nauseam. I'll do my best to stay away from the obvious things like Siri vs. This has finally afforded me the chance to really compare the two operating systems, as opposed to my previous method of researching and copping five-minute sessions with in-store demo units. It's an iPhone 6, so it's not the latest and greatest, but it does run the most recent version of iOS. This isn't due to some blind trust in Google or some unfounded hate for Apple, either, because I've always made sure to get my hands on each iPhone iteration along the way to see what it had to offer.īut just this last April, I finally got my very first iPhone. Over the course of the past seven years, I've owned ten different smartphones-all of them powered by Android. But chances are you won't be downloading that from App Store, either.I'm an Android user. So, happy birthday iPhone! Here's hoping that next time you get to blow out the candles some clever soul will have given you cut, copy and paste facilities. They're just waiting for the firmware to come out. My understanding is that this has already been done. Of course, this assumes that the likes of NerveGas and others are going to be able to jailbreak the 2.0 firmware so that you can install unsigned apps that haven't been built from the official SDK. In one camp you will have tons of games available from App Store and in the other, tons of very clever utilities and productivity enhancements from the rest of us. But all the API's are accessible using open-source Toolchain.Īfter the first year's experiences with Apple, I foresee an increasingly fractured marketplace developing around the iPhone. The reason is that in order to do anything this clever on the iPhone, you have to go beyond the very restrictive set of API routines that Apple want you to use. IntelliScreen won't be available from Apple's forthcoming App Store any time soon. What you can't do with Apple's official SDK IntelliScreen is the name of an awesome iPhone app that takes over your "Slide to Unlock" screen. But it does make life more difficult for those folks who prefer to stick with the "unofficial" open-source Toolchain.Īnd why stick with the open-source Toolchain, I hear you cry? Check out the screenshots here to see. After all, the $99 you must pay isn't going to break the bank. Personally, I don't have any big problems with this. Of course, to get the SDK to sign the app, you've got to be a fully paid up, kosher iPhone developer on Apple's official program. Without that digital signature, the app runs just fine on the iPhone simulator that's part of the SDK, but it will just thumb its nose at you if you try and run an unsigned app on the actual device. When you build your iPhone app using the latest development tools, a digital signature gets embedded into the executable file. Apple has cunningly implemented code-signing capabilities into the new SDK. What you didn't get was the ability to just upload a custom application to your jail-broken iPhone and expect it to work. Yes, you get Microsoft Exchange interoperability, a cute scientific calculator (darn! I was planning to make millions by writing a scientific calculator that flipped into normal mode by rotating the phone - see you in court, Apple), and support for the new "push" notifications that come as a part of the recently unveiled MobileMe service. Once people started downloading and working with the SDK, it quickly became clear that the 2.0 device firmware had a sting in the tail. With the announcement of the 2.0 firmware and official Apple SDK in March, though, the floodgates were about to open on native, third-party development. All the others tell you how to write - yawn - web apps. This is currently the only decent book on iPhone development. One of the original hackers, Jon Zdziarski (alias "NerveGas" in the IRC chat rooms) has even written a book about it. A lot of talented individuals have invested much effort in developing the so-called open-source Toolchain, which essentially allows you to create your own iPhone applications. Of course, it's not much use having a jail-broken phone if there are no third-party apps to run. Since the original firmware release, Apple has been through a series of firmware upgrades, but in every case, the hackers have found ways to keep the phone unlocked. I soon found myself in possession of an unlocked, jail-broken iPhone: in fact, I was up and running before the official UK launch, last November. Like his conferences, Steve prefers iPhone development remains closed Coming up next, you’ll see what pros and cons PowerPoint hides. A few holes have alternate pin placements.īelmont is the most popular course in the Dayton area this leads to several crowding issues: Good variety of short and long holes make for interesting ace runs as well as opportunities for long bombs. An out-and-back element for holes 6-10 makes good use of the space available. The flow of the course is good and easy to follow. Protection fences added to holes 6, 9, 11, and 19. UPDATE: All baskets upgraded to Veterans. Most holes have tee signs with adequate information - hole map w/alternate pin placements, distances, and pars. The baskets are in decent, but well used condition. Some holes have multiple pads for some added variety and challenge. The course sits directly adjacent to some soccer fields, and the course often hosts dog walkers and joggers.Īll pads are concrete. There is a moderate amount of mature trees, but no significant ground coverage. There are a couple hills and the elevation comes into play on several holes. Quite simply put, Belmont is a fun throw that anyone could come back to time and time again.īelmont plays in a mostly open, multi-use city park. Some minor proximity issues could become an issue when the course is busy, but again nothing that common courtesy can't alleviate. The tee pads are pretty worn, but nothing that's really detracting. The course does show it's age, and does have an overall feel that some fresh updates and minor maintenance could keep the classic layout in tact while providing a fresh feel. I can see why this is the most played course in the area since it's easily accessible for all types of throwers. Overall the park is fairly clean and the location seemed nice. It's a fun course that offers repeatable play, a good place to just get out and throw. Plenty of opportunities for fairway and distance drivers with ample amount of midrange length holes sprinkled in. Relatively straightforward in it's design, I enjoyed throwing around the mature trees and adjusting for the gentle elevation differences this layout utilizes. Distances vary, but are realistic for the more casual player while allowing advanced throwers opportunity to score low. The 19 hole layout provides very good variety throughout. Belmont is a true local course that stands up proud. There's this happy vibe I get whenever I'm immersed on a course in a city park that is a feeling all it's own. I've always enjoyed the classic park style courses with their rolling elevation changes and shot shaping around and through mature trees. As I stated there is a bulletin board/map near the first tee, so just look for that near the back of the parking lot. The park itself can be a little hard to get to, the entrance to the course is off of Highridge Ave. I would recommend this course to anyone in the area, if you only have time for one course in the area this is it. Some courses I like to avoid the crowds on, but most of the people I have talked to here were very friendly and respectful, true dg-ers on this course. If crowds don't really bother you visit whenever you can. The course can get very crowded on evening and weekends, so if you like to avoid the crowds as much as possible you will want to visit during the day. While the course is fairly open there are also some large mature trees that create obstacles and add even more challenge and beauty to the course as well. The are also a great mix of up hill and down hill shots which can add challenge to even some of the shorter holes. There are a mix of left to right and also straight shots. There is a map available online and there is also a large map near the first tee, so you should have no problem navigating if you have these. The course is fairly easy to navigate, however there can be a couple spots that are tricky. While the course can get very crowded most the people I have encountered are true golfers, friendly, helpful, and respectful, they way every course should be. There are a few trash cans throughout the course, and it has always been litter free when I have played, so please be sure to throw your trash away. My favorite hole is #9, you tee off a top a hill, basket is located across a little valley with the basket on top of the other side.Ĭourse is always clean and grass is always cut. They make great use of the elevation changes which is challenging and a lot of fun. It has a beautiful setting with rolling hills and mature trees. Other Thoughts: This is one of my favorite courses to play in Ohio. In a place where serenity meets style in all the right ways, you’ll reside in comfort, in luxury.
